Waterlife Handmade Notecards

From a grinning crocodile to an elegant swan, these water creature cards will bring a smile to anyone’s face. Contemporary artist Rambharos Jha works in the ancient Mithila folk art tradition, which originated with women in rural communities in Bihar, India, who decorate the floors and walls of their homes with traditional designs and symbols.

Each card has been screen-printed by hand at Tara Books’ sustainable print workshop in Chennai, South India, which employs, trains and nurtures young bookmaking artisans. Proceeds are shared among the artisans involved, and each set includes an insert that tells the story behind the cards.
