This replica features the painting "Five Pure Elements" by artist and poet of the early Ch'ing Dynasty (A.D.1644-1912), Yun Shop-p'ing (A.D.1633-1690). He was born in Changchow, Kiangau and studied landscape painting at first, but soon turned to plants and flowers, when he saw the landscapes of Wang Hui and realized that there was no chance for him to surpass them. Though his few landscapes have also received favorable attention, it is his pictures of plants and flowers which have exercised a profound influence upon Chinese painting during the Ch'ing period. They have been admired for the scholarly taste of the artists as well as the technical skill. He also excelled in calligraphy.
The five elements of this picture are the moon, water, and pine tree, bamboo and plum blossom. The artist used these objects to symbolize and eulogize purity of an ideal life.
The picture bears the painter's signature and seals.
