Red Skies Vase

Japanese Kutani ware is known for landscapes, flora, and fauna in bold, expressive colors, seen on this vase in cranes soaring through a rosy sunset toned sky over misty mountains.  Porcelain kilns in the village of Kutani (“Nine Valleys” in Japanese) date back to 1655CE, and the style was named an official traditional craft in 1975, with several artists designated as living national treasures.
