This Sashiko-stitched cotton Rodogi work coat is from early 20th century Yamagata Prefecture, Japan. A full-length coat composed of indigo-dyed cotton with vertical bands of Sashiko stitching, it has reinforcement and repair cotton patches in varying shades of indigo ranging from gray to purple indigo. With a cotton collar and hem, slightly tapering sleeves, and some double patching on the inside. This piece is sourced from Guillermina Emy LaFever, who is known for her unique, quirky art and furnishings with an Asian emphasis. She has traveled the world acquiring and merchandising her incredible collection for 35 years.
